New funding announced to create three Cultural Resource Hubs in Berwick
To help increase the quality and range of cultural and creative opportunities in Berwick upon Tweed, we’re delighted to announce the next round of our Cultural Resource Hub funding is now live.
The £50,000 funding will allow empty spaces in the town to be transformed into new creative hubs for workshops, exhibitions, concerts, performance, events and creative and communal activities. They will boost the visibility of Berwick’s creative and cultural sectors and increase people’s access and engagement with cultural activity
Operating over a period of six-twelve months, these time-limited hubs will provide a home for any type of artform. We’re seeking proposals from start-up and existing cultural or creative businesses, community or volunteer-led organisations or partnerships, to transform three empty spaces in the town.
Providing opportunities for Berwick’s creatives
A key requirement of the funding is that each Cultural Resource Hub must provide economic opportunities for Berwick’s existing creative professionals.
Andrea Oliver, Create Berwick Manager, said: “Whilst Berwick already has some excellent spaces that support the cultural and creative industries, we want to breathe new life into some of the unused buildings across the town so they can become new and exciting places where people can experience and participate in creative and cultural activities.
“As well as attracting visitors to Berwick and increasing opportunities for people to engage in arts and culture, the new Cultural Resource Hubs will also provide a place for Berwick’s creative community to make, sell, and lead workshops – helping to strengthen the existing sector by allowing people to build new audiences and customers for their work.”
Available fee for project
We will award a total of £50,000 to create three new Cultural Resource Hubs in the town. Up to £20,000 will be awarded to repurpose an empty building as a shared cultural and creative hub for a period of 12 months. And up to £10,000 will be awarded to either repurpose an empty building, or establish a shared cultural and creative hub for a period of 6-12 months.
About Cultural Resource Hubs
Cultural Resource Hubs are designed to be test beds for creating new creative and cultural programming. Examples include an empty shop unit transformed into an exhibition space or cultural venue, or an empty building or an existing room in a youth club, CIU or W.I. set aside for regular creative workshops or cultural activity.
