More than 60 artists, makers and creatives to open their doors for first Berwick Open Studios

25 venues and more than 60 artists, makers and creatives will open their doors for the first Berwick Open Studios event on 26-27 September and 3-4 October.

The event is free to attend and will showcase the variety of artists based in what is fast becoming Northumberland’s must-see cultural destination.

Venues taking part include the Barracks Artist Studios, Abstract Berwick, 27 Art House, and The Old Brewery Artist Studios. Visitors will be able to meet artists, explore studios which are not usually open to the public, and buy original art.

Artists taking part in the event include illustrator Ali Edwards, who will be opening up her home studio at 24 Glamis Hill. “Living in Berwick is just a treasure trove of heritage buildings and landmarks that I find endlessly interesting and inspiring,” she said.

Mills Jackson Rowe, an artist and curator working across painting, collage, print and mixed media, will be showcasing her work at Jackal on Hide Hill. “Open Studios feels like an opportunity to make Berwick’s creative connections more visible, encourage conversations and hopefully make art feel more accessible and welcoming to people who might not usually step into gallery spaces,” she said.

Berwick Open Studios project manager, Abigail Thomas, gave an insight into the event, saying: “Berwick is packed full of artists, studios and creative venues. It’s a location which inspires through its landscape, heritage and stories, and this can clearly be seen in the art which is made here.

“Berwick Open Studios has been created to show people the incredible creative talent we have here and to invite people to come and discover what makes this town such a special and inspiring place.”

“This is the first Berwick Open Studios event and the response from Berwick’s artists has been incredible,” said Abigail. “People want to be involved and they want to help celebrate the creative community we have in the town.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors to experience Berwick’s contemporary arts scene, step inside hidden creative spaces and discover the work of Northumberland’s artists.”

The Berwick Open Studios guide map will be available to pick up from Berwick Visitor Centre and other locations throughout the town.

Berwick Open Studios 2026 is funded by Create Berwick – a designated Culture and Creative Zone (CCZ), funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Northumberland County Council.
