Berwick Open Studios 2026

Create Berwick is supporting a new project for 2026 – a pilot Open Studios event to be held in Berwick later this year.

Meet Abigail

The pilot is being managed by freelance arts producer Abigail Thomas who has this introduction:

A photograph of Abigail Thomas who is wearing a lime green jumper with flower pattern. She is standing on a roof top with a red brick building in the background“We’re building an exciting new event celebrating the many selling galleries, studios and talented artists and makers in Berwick-upon-Tweed. The idea being that both individuals and venues will open their doors to visitors, offering a rare chance to catch a glimpse into the working world of creatives in the town, and offering an opportunity for direct sales, conversations and adding to the sense of creative community.”

When? 26 – 27 September and 3 – 4 October 2026

Where? Berwick, Tweedmouth and Spittal

Next steps

Artists, makers, creative businesses and galleries. Now is the time to find out how you can get involved. You will notice the event is set across two weekends, we hope that many of you will take part in both, but there will be a section in the application process where you can choose to take part in just one weekend.

You will also notice the areas we’re covering this year are Berwick, Tweedmouth & Spittal, any studios/venues outside these areas are unable to be listed this time.

However, there will be a couple of alternative options for those artists based outside these areas who are still keen to be part of the event. We will sshare more information when the application process goes live at the end of April.

  • Attend one of our Q&A sessions with Abigail (see details below)
  • Follow Berwick Open Studios on Facebook and Instagram
  • Share with other artists and creatives that you know in the area
  • Apply to take part – links to get involved will be posted on this page

Q&A Sessions

We recognise that as this is a brand new event and there will be a great deal of questions. We will endeavour to provide answers to as many of them as possible in the written application guide which will be available to download from this page from Thursday 30 April.

We are also running two Q&A sessions, one in-person, and one online.

In-person Q&A Session

Join us at Jackal on Tuesday 28 April from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. No need to register in advance.

The session will be a chance for artists, creatives and gallerists to come along and ask our Project Manager, Abigail, questions about how to be part of this new event. There will be a presentation at 6pm introducing the event, and the application process, then there will be a chance to ask questions. After the more formal session, Abigail will be around to answer any further questions 1 to 1. Refreshments will be provided

Jackal is an independent art space right in the heart of Berwick-upon-Tweed, founded by artist and curator Mills Jackson Rowe.

Access information

The venue, Jackal, is located at number 30 Hide Hill in Berwick upon Tweed, TD15 1AB. The entrance is on a hill with a sloped pavement. The main door has a step up from the sloped pavement. Inside the main space the floor is fairly even, with a side space down a step, and the back area up another step. The toilet is not suitable for wheelchair access. There will be plenty of seating available throughout the session, and refreshments will be provided. Abigail will be doing a presentation with accompanied projection, and will not be using a microphone. Should any of this be of concern, please get in touch, and/or consider if the online session might suit your needs better.

Online Q&A Session

There will also be a second Q&A session as an online video call with Abigail. Please get in touch with Abigail by email to request an invite to this. If you have any access requirements, please let us know ahead of the session.

The online Q&A will take place on Tuesday 5 May, 11am – 12.30pm via Google Meet.

Please email Abigail to register for the Online Q&A at berwickopenstudios@gmail.com

If you’re unable to attend either Q&A sessions, please contact Abigail by email with any queries about taking part in Berwick Open Studios.
