Create a Space is a project funded by Create Berwick through the Creatively Healthy Fund.

The team behind Create a Space is made up of young neurodiverse creatives, parents and carers of neurodiverse young people, artists, and creative facilitators. Together, they came up with the idea for Create a Space, after seeing that there was a gap in provision for creative arts sessions with neurodiverse young people.

Create a Space is designed to be a project where a creative community can be built, and can share in their artistic skills and imagination. In 2025 they came together for six sessions with 10 young people. They all enjoyed it so much that they decided to do it again, thanks to the funding from Create Berwick.

When is it? 

Create a Space will be welcoming young people back from the 2025 group, but also have spaces for new people to join. They hope participants will be able to commit to all or most of the sessions on the following dates (Friday’s 5pm – 7pm)

The introductory session is on Friday 6th February, 5pm-7pm. Further sessions will take place on the following Friday’s between 5pm and 7pm. 27th February, 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th March, 24th April and 1st and 9th May 2026.

Each session will last 2 hours. It will involve a welcome and introduction, some short creative activities, and then time to learn a new skill, work on your own creative project or share ideas and skills with others in the room. In some of these sessions they will invite professional artists to come and show the group what they do, and give them a chance to learn a skill and talk to them about what it is like to be a practising artist.

At the final session, there will be an exhibition of the work produced by the group. If participants choose to, they can display their artwork in this exhibition. This will be a chance to invite friends and family to see the artwork that has been made during the project, and to celebrate the creativity of the group.
